Being assigned the paper run throughs was a tedious process
that was very frustrating. Although it was frustrating, it made me realize how
helpful it could be for writing my future papers. Before this process I was
never able to really think outside of the box, in terms of writing papers. At
first it was very hard to get the whole point of the assignment and it took
over an hour to finish it. I kept questioning my self if I was doing the right
thing. Finally after the third run through I knew what I was doing. I learned
to enjoy the assignment, even though the topics could be complicated at times.
I could think in ways unlike before, I think this was due to the minimal work
of the assignment. It was about quality not quantity. It also made me realize
if I use this technique as a basis for my actual paper writing, I could get it
done at lot faster. This also made me focus on certain and specific topics of
my paper. Once I had a subject I could go more in depth and stick to what I was
talking about because I have already planned and organized my paper. I am glad
that the topics got progressively harder because if it were assigned the
opposite way, the assignment would have been impossible to do. In addition to
the things I learned, I am happy that this assignment went towards a grade ad it
hopefully helped my overall class grade.

favorite book
I have read many books throughout my short life span. But
there has been one book that has really stuck out to me. I have always read
books that were above my reading and age level so this book in particular isn’t
a surprise. It has been my favorite book ever since I opened it, possibly
because of it harsh subject content or maybe because I was in 8th
grade reading about drugs and abuse. This book is titled, In Ecstasy and it is
written by Kate McCaffrey. This book is filled with suspense and you can’t suspect
the events. It’s a modern day teenage horror story dealing with contemporary
issues. I remember reading this book and being shocked by what I was reading.
It encouraged me to read me beyond my limits and I finished the book within one
day. I read like I was on a mission being that it was over a 250-page book, but
I loved every second of it. I even recommended for my teacher to read it. He
was a little loony so he bought the book (that was inappropriate for 8th
graders) and put it on display for everyone in the class to see. The book was a
popular hit and the talk of the classroom discussions.

my favorite technique
This semester I learned a lot of new writing techniques. The books that were assigned are the perfect books to assign to any English class, I felt prepared. The year started off with the class reading “They Say I Say”. In this book, I learned from the templates that were given. My vocabulary expanded and so did the expressions I used during my writing. Being assigned this book so early in the semester laid out a foundation for me to write my future papers. Going into college, I was not so confident about the quality of the papers I was going to write. I did not feel prepared because of the lack of education in my high school. After reading this book I felt caught up and on the same level as everyone else in the class. Even after writing my papers, I had another guide to look at, “The Pocket Style Manual.” This improved my writing skills when writing “Works Cited” pages. Having these books has helped me look back and make sure my work in correct. Overall, I realized that I like having a book as a guide to do my work and it is my favorite. It ensures that I am accurate and that I can have confidence in my work. Without either book, my work would have been a total disaster. I would have not known how to do certain things, or I would have been completely overwhelmed.

levels
After reading through a few chapters, I wasn’t really too
sure what to write about. One chapter about women stuck out to me. The title of
the chapter was called, ”Women are not the peaceful creatures you think”. It
goes on and on about examples that reassure the reader that women are way more
superior then men in many ways. Although this may be true in a mental aspect it
may not be true in a physical aspect. However, if I were to write a paper on
this, how could I come up with three pages to write about this topic? I would
have to write my paper in the microcosmic and macrocosmic levels. If I were to
look at this topic from the microcosmic level I would probably write about how
in female organisms there are certain hormones that create territorial mindsets
in their brains. This causes females to be pretentious, evil and sometimes
murderous according to The Lucifer
Principle. I could give different examples of what organisms does
this. I also could state theories of why
scientists think this happens. All of these
exemplars could represent the microcosmic levels. After writing about this I
would begin to look at it from a bigger perspective, the macrocosmic level. I
could compare females and males and the different things they do to show that
they are superior. I would research why they would want to be superior and what
positive things they gain from doing so. By finding reputable sources and journals
I will be able to accomplish a quality paper.

Bertrand Russell
I have never heard who Bertrand Russell was, but after a
quick Wikipedia search and reading a few biographies I realized he was a pretty
cool guy. A historian, mathematician, and a philosopher are enough occupations for
someone to make some funky commandments. After reading Russell’s passage more
then one commandant poked its face and stuck out to me. I know the assignment
was to only find one but this was more then interesting to me. The first one, “
Do not feel absolutely about anything.” Is
a bold statement everyone should go by. Information changes everyday. People
die, statistics change, science changes. Inevitability every little bit of
information changes. No one likes a hard ass either, so If its not 2+2 don’t be
so sure. I also liked number seven, although it seems more of a morality trait
rather than a “commandment”, it makes you realize it is crucial to share your
opinions. Why be mute to the world,
share your opinions because one day you could change the world. Our world is
shaped by opinions; religion, politics, and culture. Without it the world would
be bland, with out dimension. The last commandment that really stuck out to me
was the last commandment. I believe so highly of this quote that I hung it in
my dorm room. Sometimes I feel that I get envious from some of the naïve people
here. I see them having fun on the weeknights when I am studying. They get
unlimited amounts of spending money from their parents, when I had to work for
all of mine. But I realize I am going to be the ones with the good grades and all
of the money when they are suffering. I appreciated this assignment and I hope
there are many more just like it.

my first paper
Did I like writing my first college paper? The correct
answer is yes. It got me back into the swing of things. After having a whole
summer off, with no summer work writing my first paper was a bit of a struggle.
Writing the “meat” of the paper was the hardest part. There were no specific
directions to know what exactly I was supposed to write about. I tried steering
my paper in the right direction with the best of my ability. With some coffee
and concentration I was able to work my way through it. Writing an introduction
was a usual procedure in high school however having such a “short” notice to
write a paper was a completely different from what I was used to. Usually a paper
of this magnitude was considered as a final exam grade. In high school, a paper
of this size had a time period of a month (which is completely ridiculous in my
opinion). Using a source also wasn’t familiar to me, when writing about a topic
that was not an actual “research” paper.
Only when writing about history or a book was when I was asked to have a
citation. Writing this paper laid out a foundation for me to write my future
papers. I can now produce what is expected after the first paper. Once I
receive my grade, I think I will have an even better understanding. As for the
next papers I write, I will incorporate all of the knowledge I have learned in
the first and reproduce it again.
